1878

The First Flame

Ramaiah Manepally lights his forge in Hyderabad's Charminar quarter. Working with temple priests and royal patrons, he develops a signature style of sacred iconography beaten into fine silver — a language of devotion that would define the house for generations.

1924

Royal Recognition

The Nizam of Hyderabad commissions Manepally to create the centrepiece jewellery for his daughter's wedding. The 22-piece set — featuring a Lakshmi haaram of unprecedented intricacy — cements the house's reputation across the Deccan.

1967

The Temple Trail

Third-generation master Suresh Manepally travels to the great temples of Tamil Nadu — Madurai, Tirupati, Thanjavur — studying the Chola-era goldsmith tradition. He returns with a new vocabulary of motif and proportion that reshapes the Manepally catalogue.

2008

Silver as the Medium

While others chased gold, Manepally made a deliberate choice: to master silver — 92.5% sterling — as the primary metal. Purity, hallmarking and the BIS 925 standard become the non-negotiable foundation of every piece.

2024

Mandira — Born Digital

The fourth generation launches Mandira Silver — bringing 145 years of craft to a new audience. Every piece available online is made in the Hyderabad atelier, by the same hands that have worked alongside the Manepally family for decades.

Every piece is 92.5% pure sterling silver, certified by the Bureau of Indian Standards. No compromise, no shortcuts — the same standard the Manepally family has upheld since they adopted hallmarking in 2008.

Our artisans still set each stone by hand. The slight imperfection in the bezel, the variation in a row of granules — these are not flaws. They are the signatures of a human being, present in your jewellery for as long as it lasts.

All 92 of our artisans are based in Hyderabad and surrounding silversmith communities. We pay above-market rates, provide health cover, and offer apprenticeships to the next generation — because craft dies without craftspeople.

Every ruby, emerald and pearl used in our pieces is natural. We source from certified traders in Jaipur and Hyderabad, and never substitute with glass or synthetic material — regardless of the price point.

Locate the BIS stamp on your piece — typically on the inner surface of a bangle, the clasp of a necklace, or the shank of a ring. The stamp reads: BIS logo · 925 · Assaying Centre Code · Year Letter · Jeweller's Code (MS).

You can verify any BIS hallmark on the official BIS Care app or at bis.gov.in. If your piece doesn't have a hallmark, contact us immediately at care@mandirasilver.com.
